I just recently gave Adobe Lightroom another try – I use the CC version and it has some rather amazing features, including a healing brush that it very easy to use! If you have not found them already (and if you are using Adobe products), check out kelbyone.com — it is a subscriptions training video site that has some really good stuff!
Thanks! I have only done about 10 studio shoots yet, all over the course of the last 2 months, so I am still very much in the early stages of exploring the possibilities of lighting…
Looking forward to these sets (although I hope we will not have to wait until 2017…).
I am ambivalent about this – the dungeon sets do introduce some different lighting and feel to the images, which I do like. On the other hand, I think RE is at its best shooting softer images depicting consensual bondage.
Ariel is a great actress and can certainly pull off the stories they come up with, so this is mainly my preference in subject matter.
Hywel: I am torn about this (which is why I raised it); the mismatch does bother me when I view images on my monitor. On the other hand, if I edit an image to fit into 16×9, I often do not like the change in composition. I am experimenting with adding borders (“frames”) around the images to avoid having the image directly blend into the extra space. I like the pan/zoom slide-show videos as the can mimic the natural way in which one might scan the scene. I have yet to try that with framed images.
Sablesword: 16×9 won’t go away because display formats are driven by video, not images. (I used to have a portrait format display for writing – I have not seen anyone use those for a long time). That said, I may look for a good second monitor, especially if I can get a more square one without giving up quality.
Hywel, wow – thank you for that long reply. You have given me a lot of ideas on how to approach creating shoots. For the next few months I am working with groups and a lead photographer, so there is a starting concept. Still, I realized after the first outing that I need to develop me own ideas to go with that concept.
I hope you get to enjoy your break and look forward to seeing the new sets you come up with. If things progress well I hope to make it to the UK for a summer photo vacation next year; I’d love to set up a tutorial day with you and Ariel!
Thanks again!
PS. I’ll pass on the “marry your favorite model” I think – bad experiences in the past… 🙂
Sablesword, good point – I’ll make a point of scanning back through the forum! Alas, so far I have no old sets to review, so I have been reading a lot and looking at other photographer’s work.
Looks like it will be a good month – thanks!
Case in point: The “Quite a Talking to” set in today’s RE update has exactly the kind of extra shots I like, at the start of the set. Thanks!
I am jealous – what a great opportunity! I did like the shots you contributed. I used to be a fairly active amateur photographer, but real life got in the way of pursuing that for a while. I have recently started to look at getting back into photography and to learn to work with models (I did mostly landscapes and macro photography). I was surprised to find a decent number of potential resources not to far from where I live in Ohio, we’ll see how far I can take this idea with what is out there. Booking a shoot with Ariel would be wonderful, but sadly not something that is likely in the foreseeable future :(.
Wow, nice work! I used to play with Poser a few years back; getting CG to look right is not easy…
Count me as another vote for unbound, behind the scenes, and after the shoot photos. I don’t think I have ever felt that a model might have been coerced in an RE set — even the “dark” RE sets are pretty playful compared to a lot of other sites.
I think what makes the extra shots and out-takes so nice for me is that it allows me to feel in a very, very small way to be part of the community that creates these images and stories. For the same reason I love the instructional videos Ariel does.
Indeed, many thanks for the fantasies shared at RE. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
Andrew,
I am glad you are keeping your sense of humor during this mess in the UK. I have to admit that, living in the US, I am truly befuddled by what you have going on. I always thought of the US as the home of the uptight! An in general, I’d say society here is a lot less accepting of fetish lifestyles – I think the only thing that has kept censorship at bay here is the US Constitution.Oh, and many thanks for the picture of the flexible, and always gorgeous, Ariel!
Love the variety – looks like it will be a good month.
