UPDATE 2: I’ve been trying to test this over the last couple of days and the problem seems to have stopped for me. Is anyone else still getting it? I can’t tell whether it is because we’ve fixed it, or because I’m testing at times where the load on the server isn’t as great. Ohhhh, I HATE debugging intermittent time-out problems!
You may have noticed intermittent slow log ins to the sites. We’re not sure what is going on, but the first login attempt times out with a 504 Gateway Timeout Error.
Hit the back button and try again- it usually seems to let you in.
Support are investigating, but it is one of those maddening problems that affects a few people most of the time, most people some of the time and some people not at all, so it is taking a while to track down.
For the moment, just hit back and try accessing the members’ area again and it should let you in.

I don’t know if its in any way relevant but the problem is exactly the same on my PC and iMac. Its only a very minor issue though, i’m always in by my third attempt
A possible clue: When I hit the “reload” button after geting the 504 error, I’m allowed into the member area – without having to give a username/password. The system might be keeping me logged in after I close my browser (Pale Moon 64 bit/Windows 7) or it might be bypassing the login entirely
