Silk Soles members’ area nearly ready

Silk Soles members’ area is nearly ready, thanks to my techie friend Ian and Surfnet tech support. You can find it at http://www.silksoles.com/members/index.php.

I’ve implemented all the pages in the members’ area now and uploaded the first photoset, video and archive update. The preview tour isn’t done yet- that’s one of my jobs for the rest of the week.

For a very limited time, the members’ area is open to all for a sneak preview- including full HD 1080p video and poster-sized photos. Check it out, and please let me know of any funny behaviour or bugs you encounter.

This free preview won’t last long- the members’ area will be password protected in a day or two. So don’t hang about, you’ll miss it!

  1. Looking good so far. I especially like the video gallery on the videos, so much more informative than a single caption image, it gives you a real sense of what is going on here 🙂

A very minor point, the download links, due to the purple frame on the links I automatically took the entire purple area to be a button, so an active link, but it isn’t, you need to click on the text inside the block. So perhaps consider making these buttons?

  2. Hi Colin, thanks for the comments.

The lack of “button-ness” is a hold-over from HTML4 which can’t wrap block level elements like a div (used to create the purple areas) with an a href tag (to make it a link).

HTML5, in principle, can. I will check it out and see how it behaves.

I’m trying to implement everything with HTML5 and CSS rather than have to go the non-flowing, non-scaling route of images for buttons etc which will break if anyone uses non-standard font sizes in their browser. That’s a problem I’ve hit with RE’s layout from time to time- discovering some old version of IE creates a horrible word wrap on preview page arrows, etc..

Hopefully it won’t throw people too much, but I’ll see if I can find a neat solution to turning the whole purple area into a button.

    Cheers, Hywel
