Hi All,
I have a very soft spot for bondage artwork and would like to feature more of it on the site as a bonus.
Is this something that interests you at all?
Cheers, Hywel.
October 5, 2007 at 14:23 #11165Yes. As long as the drawings have the general style and tone of Restrained Elegance.
One of my pet peeves is “bondage” artwork that pushes the SM edge of BDSM, with pain, welts, blood, and vore and death. I understand that artists are taking advantage of the medium – they can show things in drawings that they can’t do to live models in photos and that are hard to fake even with sfx and photoshopping.
But it peeves me that so many artists choose to take advantage of the medium in that direction.
(“Peeves” is a good word. “Bothers,” “annoys,” and “disturbs” aren’t quite right to express my feelings toward drawings that are often technically beautiful but that manage to stomp on my “ick” buttons with their turn to macabre and horror.)
October 5, 2007 at 15:57 #11166I think it is safe to say that I won’t be commissioning any artwork that veers too far from the “RE canon”.
I may well go for some more damsel-in-distress style stuff, partially because I really like the traditional damsel storylines and partially because drawing an over-elaborate deathtrap is a lot easier than building one as a set, but I don’t anticipate anything with more than an implicit threat of gore ๐
Cheers, Hywel.
October 5, 2007 at 17:33 #11167Greetings from Texas,
I love bondage art, but it’s like anything else. There is some out there that goes too far in my view, just like photographs. I’m a member of this site because I feel it’s done in good taste. I download what I like and leave what I don’t.
I guess what I’m trying to say is everyones taste are different. If I don’t like what you post I will close that window and spend some time with Sabrina or Paige. So, by all means put up some more artwork! I’ve downloaded all the artwork you’ve posted so far.

Personally, my answer is No, I would rather see photos or videos than artwork…..sorry but someone has to be negative lol
October 5, 2007 at 21:21 #11169Well to be clear about it, having artwork on the site doesn’t mean that there will be any fewer photos or less videos.
It will be in addition to rather than instead of. Granted I may spend a bit of cash commissioning art which could otherwise go towards bondage gear or camera kit or whatever but it is never likely to be more than a very small amount by comparison.
Which is not to denigrate your preferences AT ALL, Keith- and thank you forposting to let me know! Quite understand that a lot of people do prefer photos and/or videos! Just reassuring people that having artwork on the site won’t hit the other stuff.
Cheers, Hywel.

October 6, 2007 at 10:11 #11170It really depends on what exactly the artworks look like.
Really good BDSM artwork is extremely rare, and I wonder who you got in mind to do this.
I’d suggest that you first give us a demonstration of what you have in mind, before you decide this as a regular investment.
October 6, 2007 at 10:18 #11171… which is exactly what I am doing. Have a look for artwork features from a few artists over the coming weeks.
Hywel.
October 8, 2007 at 14:06 #11172Hmm, had to think about this one! Obviously if the artwork is in addition to the usual output it can’t be a bad thing. My artistic interest is certainly the photography, the video is more entertainment for me. I think I like the idea of artwork to be relatively extreme – I guess i posess a few darker fantasies involving edgy peril etc that I would hate to see photographed but would be much happier to see as art, artwork of mild bondage does little for me. I can see artwork as interesting, especially if its relatively abstract – it just ain’t sexy for me.
Cheers

October 12, 2007 at 20:16 #11173Just wanted to say I have been LOVING the recent bits of artwork. Totally in keeping with Restrained Elegance.

October 12, 2007 at 22:42 #11174I like them, too. Haven’t made my mind up yet which I would choose as my favourite, but they fit well to RE.
October 13, 2007 at 21:03 #11175I really like the art, itรยดs a nice extra. It fits RE really good.

October 14, 2007 at 06:02 #11176I’m not against bondage artwork on principle, its just that I see very little of it that’s even decent art.
If its not coming at the cost of photo sets I don’t mind it, other people like it, but its not an attraction to me. If I really want to see it I can find particular artists I know I like and patronise their sites.
November 7, 2007 at 20:26 #11177I’ve not really enjoyed it so far but like someone else said further up, I just skip it and get something else. Doesn’t harm my enjoyment of the site any, but I’m not fussed about it.
November 17, 2007 at 01:04 #11178A Yes from me, based on what I have found so far. Some of the drawings by Steve O. Reno are to dark for my tastes, for example the woman in the saw mill ๐
That did not look like it was about to have a happy ending.
But several of his drawings really speak to me. They have the emotion, the wonderful expressions in the women’s eyes, the sexy outfits, the lovely bondage, that I am seeing and finding so enjoyable in the picture sets.
I also really liked “The Stables” by Morgan Cauthers-Knox. Well drawn, so sexy, and overall just a wonderful image. This though is one you could have done with real models just as well.
I am in two minds about “Breast Cabinet” by Brian Tarsis
The words that go with it really bring it alive. I love the concept, the idea, the vision of the woman being bound like this in the middle of a busy part of the house for a long period. It is just the image its self did not really speak to me. Her eyes just don’t look right to me, I cannot see / feel the emotions I want to see and feel here.I am not sure if Sigrid’s Saga qualifies under this heading or not, since the ones I have seen so far are as much story as art.
The work that seems to have gone into the drawings is amazing, the story is well constructed, I am just not sure if it is a story I am going to like or not. Is it ultimately a happy story? Things are starting to look up in “After the battle”, and I really love the wicked detail with the sausages in the first frame!
November 19, 2007 at 18:14 #11179I just went back to look over the drawings as a group (thanks to the new Search function). They’re not too dark for Restrained Elegance, but IMHO they do skew toward RE’s dark side.
My biggest disappointment, though, is the rarity of bare feet in the drawings. (Goes back and counts: 37 female figures, 5 shown with bare feet (13.5%), 12 with lower legs & feet not shown at all (32.4%), 20 with footwear of various kinds(54.1%).)
