Well I’ve been away for a good while but have been tempted back by all the new storyline/fancy dress sets lately that are back to what made this site so good and different when I used to be a long term member.

What finally made my mind up was the Bound for Rigel 9 set on the preview page. Imagine my delight when I discovered it was a video. With special effects and dialogue (should that be monologue?) and everything. At last, someone is actually putting some imagination into a video. So many sites seem to think all they have to do is tie someone up on their sofa, stuff a gag in their mouth and set the camera going for 2 minutes – dull, dull, dull.

The point of this post, therefore, is to say nice one, and to offer some encouragement to keep doing stuff like that because ambition is good and has at least made you my entrance fee!

    Hi Barrie,

First of all, it is good to have you back!

I’m glad you liked the video. I just had this idea to do something science-fictiony and to work with what limited resources I had to make something a bit out of the ordinary. I wish I had the time, energy and resources to make every video as good as a short film… at the moment, that’s a little prohibitive but I’m trying to substitute cunning for funding :oz :singhappy

I’ve got several more ambitious video projects in mind- Ariel and I are discussing a short bondage film (by which I mean something with the style, pacing and story of a “proper” short film, only with a strong bondage element). That’s at an early stage of planning but I hope to be able to film it in November and December.

I’ve got another two science fiction videos already in the can which are waiting for me to have enough time to assemble all the additional elements to turn them into a finished product- one with Francesca Lee where she had a silicon chip implanted into her head, and one with Petra and Alexandra where they fight in a high-tech televised arena. Both of those are crying out for some editing time and some additional footage- I’ve just got hold of some stock footage which I think can be pressed into service for a lot of the effects-based shots I have in mind. (The Starship opening of the Jessie video was me using Bryce 5 to design and render the scene, but that’s probably prohibitively slow for the sequences I want). I may have found someone to help out with the video editing, which would help a lot too- if I could say want I wanted and have them make a rough cut of the edit, then go through it with them to fine tune it, it should make for much faster progress than me having to sit down and devote a couple of days to editing just one clip.

As you say, ambition is good. I’ve got lots of ideas and plans for when the studio is really in full running order and I have a bit of help behind the scenes on the editing etc.. Belle is a pretty good cameraman, and Ariel trained in camerawork at drama school, so I’ve got a bit more of a “crew” I can call on- just need to round it out with some help on the editing.

    Watch this space!!!

    Cheers, Hywel.

Great news, I’ll look forward to those.

I was wondering how you did the space ship scene. As an alternative to Bryce and all the hard work, you could always just capture some footage from games, they’re getting very pretty nowadays (for example Nexus the Jupiter Incident is ideal for spaceships). Not sure about the copyright issue though, but there’s a growning Machinima cult for movies made in just this way.

By the way, and off topic, you may remember I was looking in to building a perspex box since your previous one fell to bits and only got used once.

Well, I had it all designed but when I went to a local perspex place the cost of the bits I needed came to around £400 which kind of stalled the project. Admittedly that was for nice curvy bits so there wouldn’t be any big wooden corners or anything to spoil it. Just so you know I didn’t just forget about it.

    HI Barrie,

I wouldn’t want to run the risk of pinching copyrighted works, I’m not sure of the legal status of stuff from games. It was satisfying to do it myself from scratch in Bryce anyway! 🙂

£400 doesn’t sound unreasonable. Email me- if we really can get it down for that sort of price I’m definitely interested.

Someone else mentioned the launch of iPod videos… the first (and only) video I’ve bought from the new iTunes music video store is “Sweet Dreams my LA Ex” by Rachel Stevens which is definitely a barefoot bondage video- especially the sequence where she’s kicking off her shoes inside a perspex box! Yum!

    CHeers, Hywel.
