Hi,
Today’s video is the first to be uploaded as “normal” video files rather than ZIP files. Please let me know if this has worked OK for you.

I can still foul it up by downloading other stuff simultaenously, but other than that it works fine for me. Appreciate not having to mess about with the unzip.

Thanks for letting me know. Merlin, I think the multi-download thing is probably to do with your ISP or local settings rather than anything special about the site.
I’ve just scheduled next month’s stuff- I’m going to have the videos unzipped there too. We’ll see if it all works OK, if so we can forget ZIP file videos (hooray!).
Incidentally I am on the road again next week may not have good web access so bear with me if I am a bit slow getting back to you on things.

haha, I CANT download them now, whereas I could before. The zip files always came down complete, without fail, but the non zipped versions just seem to stop downloading whenever they like.
Oh groan really? Can you give me some info (browser, OS, security software, etc)? What happens? Have you tried WMV and Real does the same happen for both?

Mac OS X, Safari, built in firewall, plus NAT on a Dlink DSL-604+
Windows XP VLM SP2, Firefox & I.E 6, Windows firewall, again NAT on router.
It happens mostly if I am downloading several files at once.
If I let JUST the one video download its usually OK. Problem is I usually just D/L all the RE content then look at it later, only then do I find that half is missing!!!I can play some of the file, although due to terrible support of both Real and WMV on pretty much any non-MS platform, playback of these partial files can be patchy, .RM ones in particular.
Sadly it still seems impossible to download any of the videos. :splat :splat
The sheer length of them means that my browser sort of “gives up” part way through, believing the download to be finished.This can be a snag with using streaming video as, since the file is usable/watchable before its complete, It’s not as easy to find a definite EOF.
It used to happen… sometimes, but now they are non zipped….

I have absolutely no idea what to suggest. It does work for me, and clearly for most other people although one or two other peoiple have emailed me with problems. It is hard to see how it can be something specifically wrong at this end since the majority of people can download them fine.
Which means it has to be some combination of your settings, your setup, your ISP and some interaction with the way the site delivers things. Not all that many people access the site with a mac, but you’re not the only one… and it sounds like you are having the same problem with Windows too? If that’s the case it narrows it down to something common between the two systems.
What is your connection speed like? I’d be starting to suspect problems with the way the ISP has things configured, or maybe some bit of hardware just upstream of you (eg a hardware firewall or router?)

I am on a dial-up still and my ISP tends to timeout my connection after about two hours (too short a period for the bigger downloads now on RE). Might not be the most elegant solution but I can report 100% success with ReGet Deluxe download manager (Google it). This software (it’s free for a 100 day trial) means that if my connection gets dropped I can start again from the same place next time I connect. Have a try.

Aha! Thanks CD, that’s good to know, I will recommend that as something to try if other people have trouble too. Not all download managers seem to work properly with the site security scripts so it is good to know of one that does.

What? You mean because it is now much cheaper than my dial-up service and ca. 20X faster! Yea the thought had occured to me too! I hope to be moving in the next couple of months and will certainly be upgrading then. At present I can, on occasion, get access to a PC with broadband from which I download any of the larger RE files I want (REnights videos etc) for everything else the trusty ReGet Deluxe and dial-up does just fine (you have some control over it’s dialing and shutdown procedures so I tend to download medium sized files during the night when I’m asleep).
