To be perfectly honest, I pay little if any attention to the fictional narration that accompanies each set. I’d probably pay more if the stories didn’t portray unwilling scenarios. I know they’re only fantasies and that Ariel and many other submissive women actually like them (as fantasies) but I just can’t get into them myself. They seem just a little too real.

I think I’d pay more attention to stories that are a little more overtly sexual and where it’s pretty obvious that the submissive is actually enjoying herself — even if she’s pretending not to.

I have always been especially fond of tie-and-tease style play, so stories along those lines would be especially fun.

I find the stories often help – especially where the set is itself telling a story. “Village Slut Stripped and Spread” is a nice recent example.

Sometimes I think you get carried away a bit by them I thought the one for “Hot Wax” was silly and Hywel’s note confusing. I’m not personally into wax (because I think it messy not because I think it too painful) but there’s nothing wrong with playing with it in a BDSM photographer’s studio. We can add our own fantasies if we want.
And I dread to think what the malicious tabloid journalist or hostile cross-examiner (see “Thoughtful Stuff”) would make of that story!

The stories are a huge help deciding whether to download the videos – although I acknowledge RE is better than some sites in having the freeze frames as well. I’m not sure what I would have done if “A Visit to Honest Omar’s Slave Market” had mentioned that there was a fairly strong cropping sequence. I might not have looked at what is otherwise a lovely piece (which would have been a pity). At least I would not have been taken by surprise by the contents.

Generally, though, there’s not a big problem. If you like detailed stories, go for them. Like Anonanonanon7, I can pay as much or little attention to them as I like.

We know that not everyone reads the stories, and of those that do, probably hate 50% of them because they aren’t your preferred fantasy scenario (eg damsel-in-distress vs. love bondage…). Hopefully there are enough you like that it is worth us writing them but we know we can’t please everyone all the time!

Some sets we shoot with a strong storyline in mind, some we do not. The ones we do, we’ll usually write up because we hope that SOME people will like it! The ones we don’t we might add a story to later if the pictures suggest one to us, or just leave it with a fairly brief sentence or two about what the set is about.

In my defence for the hot wax story, by the way, it was written around 11 years ago back when Restrained Elegance wasn’t even open as a paysite, and thus I am not surprised it seems both out of place and rather surprising so many years on! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Cheers, Hywel.

I just want to point out that “damsel-in-distress” can vary a lot, from light and humorous, to dark and disturbing, to “Brain-bleach! Stat!”

Storylines for photosets have been discussed on these forums a number of times before. I think RE currently has the balance just about right, even though I know that Hywel’s fantasies are darker than my own.

I have to put my two cents worth into the storyline and matching photo set discussion.

I am a big fan of the “darker” element to damsel in distress.( tied in the trunk of an auto, captured by the home invader, etc.) I have viewed sets of Ariel in these situations from other sites and can tell you all that no model does a better job of portraying fear and terror.
These scenarios are very innocent, but delightfully disturbing.
I really wish Restrained Elegance would do more of this type of thing.

🙂 The last two posts are a classic illustration of the problem every website faces – can’t please all the people all of the time!

We’ll continue to have a mix of love bondage and damsel-in-distress bondage themes 🙂

    Cheers, Hywel
