The metal-bondage sets recently seem to run heavily toward “modern” handcuffs & legirons. But I have to say that they’re not my favorite. They’re too thin-looking for my tastes. I prefer something wider & heavier, something that doesn’t look like it might slice off the model’s hands & feet: Darby-style cuffs, the heavy “medium” Clejuso cuffs, the “dungeon” style shackles, or the “stainless steel jewelry” stuff from the SM factory.

I vaguely remember an earlier post saying that RE’s set of dungeon-style shackles had gone out of commission, and that Hywel was considering getting a replacement set. Let me repeat my urging that he go ahead and get a replacement set.

Well, I guess I have to say I have the opposite preference — I much prefer the modern handcuffs over the antique Darbies. It’s probably mainly personal taste, but there is one difference I can point to: most Darbies aren’t nearly as confining as modern handcuffs, especially the hinged variety that hold the wrists close together. Most Darbies seem to have a foot of chain between them. Also, the modern cuffs can be adjusted to make them inescapable yet comfortable while Darbies usually lock to only one size. And a model with small hands may be able to slip them off. Bondage isn’t bondage unless it’s completely inescapable; that’s why I like handcuffs in the first place!

But there are exceptions; I really like the old Irish 8s a lot because they hold the wrists so close together. I doubt the poor captive wearing them could get out even if she had the key in her hand!

So I guess the only way to keep all your fans happy is to keep using a variety of equipment.
