Hi All,
We had a great weekend at the RE studios doing our Bondage Photo Tutorials. Many thanks to the attendees for being respectful and fun. Sammie B and Ariel Anderssen were gorgeous and game as always! :smooch
We shot three sets on each day, taking a lot of time to examine how we should set the lighting to suit the mood and storyline of each.
Here are a few samples taken by people over the two days. The photoshopping is a bit of a rough and ready job but I hope you’ll agree the results are pretty damn good 🙂
The full sets will be up in due course along with a bit of a background on how they were shot. (Frank- you are absolutely right that I should have photographed each lighting setup. D’Oh. Read your email AFTER the tutorials! Great idea for next time!)
I’ve organised the photos by who took them… everyone was kind enough to give permission for the photos to be used on the site. One person didn’t want their name mentioned so I’ve assigned them the suitably mysterious code-name “M” 🙂 🙂 🙂

Oh my!
So at first glance these pictures don’t really stand out (has CD completely lost his mind you wonder?). After all we are all so used to seeing the wonderful photography of Hywel and lately of Kate on the site, not to mention our favourite models in seductive bondage scenes. And that is exactly the point I am trying to make – at first glance these photos are every bit the high standard we have come to expect from the site. For you guys to have achieved this standard in a tutorial shoot is, well, remarkable. To tell you the truth I am amazed at the quality, you have all really captured that RE style so distinctive amongst bondage websites. In fact I am more than a little jealous now that I was not there too!!
Particular congratulations to Andrew for that first shot. I really had to double-take before realising that was Ariel. She is of course always very memorable but this shot has got a really different look to it and her.
Also, as a bit of an amateur (really very amateur actually) photographer myself well done to those of you who got the Sammie candles + dark room shots – a complicated scene to expose I guess.
Well done to all involved (btw Sammie and Ariel are looking HOT!)

The tutorial was great!
Dr.Phillips is a good teacher and I learnt a lot, I think that applies on all of us that went to the tutorial.
Sammie and Ariel were really great to work with, and with the help of Hywel the pictures could only be great.
The candle shots was really hard, it took a lot of effort to set it up, but thanks to a patiant model and a bit of fix and tricks from Hywel the shot came out beautifully.

Btw CD, why weren’t you om the tutorial anyway? Ariel was really dissapointed tha you didnt show up.
Without wanting to do down the contribution of the photographers, I guess it does go to show that the overall “look” of the photos is very strongly influenced by the lighting and the post processing.
Obviously, we were shooting in the RE studio with my current selection of sets and bondage gear.
But I think the main reason for some uniformity of look comes from the camera settings and the lighting set-ups we used. For the most part I recommended ones which would go towards the “normal RE set” look. Then I approached the photoshopping as I would for my own pics, so I’ve probably tended to reduce rather than emphasise any differences in style by cropping some shots, playing with contrast and tone curve and colour intensity, and so on.
We did do some lighting patterns that were perhaps a bit braver than I would be on an average shoot day- for example, that first shot of Ariel was done with a single light with just a reflector, honeycomb and barn doors. Normally I chicken out and put in a little extra fill (even if only to make sure I get catchlights in the eyes). The set with Sammie and the candles actually took AGES to light, we started with one of my “normal” patterns but it was waaaay too bright, then we tried JUST the light of those few candles (I had to lend out f/1.4 lenses…) then tried to build some light back in without destroying the look.
When I photoshop, I almost always use unsharp mask to add some punch to detail, tone curves for a more “cinematic” gamma curve with more contrast and saturation, and crop the image as I would have cropped it.
Actually it is high time I did a few more experimental shoots for my own pleasure again… was a lot of fun really working hard on a look with other people “listening in” to my thought processes!

Andrew, M, Nigel, Stuart & Svampen, you’ve all done a fantastic job and it really looks like you had a lot of fun tying up Sammie and Ariel! :p Clearly there are a lot of very different lighting arrangements here which is great to see as it shows the versatility of what can be achieved.
There all cracking shots. The first one is fab, but I absolutely LOVE the 5th one down of Sammie in the red dress with the candles and the 16th shot of Ariel on the Altar. That’s very seductive!
So well done everybody, great work from the ladies for looking absolutely gorgeous (as always) and isn’t Hywel just the best teacher for bondage photography!!

Fantastic stuff. The girls are as fabulous as ever and each set looks beautifully executed, although I don’t recognise that scary looking girl in the first pic 😀 , always nice to see a new face..
The candle shots are a particular fav :heartbeat how high’s the ISO on those?
..always nice to see Ariel in shoes too heheh, even if they are a bit crazy..

As high as it goes on the camera. Plus the loan of an f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens to the Canon users who were stuck with f/4+ zooms! Poor Nigel had to struggle with a Nikon for which I had no loaner lenses, which meant we couldn’t shoot by pure candlelight in the end. At least, not without a lot more candles.
Lighting by candlelight is always a real bugger, and it took us an hour or more to get a convincing facsimile with some constant tungsten lighting to bring the general light level up without destroying the overall look and feel.
Blame Svampen, it was his idea! 🙂
It does look great when you manage to get it right, though.
In general, it helps to have a lot more candles in the scene than we had, and a fast lens really comes into its own.
Anyway, glad people are liking the pics! The first sets (the “Scary” Ariel one and Sammie in a ballgown in the dungeon) will be up next month.

Was really great to meet some more RE members on the tutorial day, I hope we can keep doing them and meeting people (hello?! CD?!) And I’m so happy that there are interesting new sets, it’s giving me lots of ideas for shoots I’d like to do. Please can we build a Moulin Rouge set, Hywel?

perhaps I am in the minority here, but I really do not think you look scary in that picture. Intent, and clearly a woman who wants something, but I really don’t see why that makes her scary!
After all, when in this position just remember to handcuff her hands behind her back and give her a good spanking *ducks very very quickly* 😀

I was going to say the first picture really stands out for me. I think its fantastic actually. Its so high definition. Your eyes tell so much. In my humble opinion its very good. I could look at it for hours. I also think the last picture of Sammie is also very expressive too. (the others are also good but the first and last ones stand out).

Wow, excellent pictures, well done to everyone, especially Ariel and Sammie who look stunning as always.
I like the shots of both models with the rope gags, not something I’ve seen much of before here at RE. And Ariel ballgagged, lovely. (What can I say, I love gags!) 😀
