To Hywel and the entire Sweden Trip Crew,

Greetings from the Eastern USA. I had a chance to read through the behind the scenes set posting from Sweden this evening and watch Ariel’s video diary (very nicely done Ariel) from the trip and all I can say is WOW and WOW again. It was a wonderful peek into all the fun, insanity and plain old pure hard work that goes into a site trip like this.

It certainly sounded like things were going to come apart right from the start but seems like the Norse gods were smiling on the group and the outdoor shots were stuning. The ladies are all to be complimented and thanked from the heart for their efforts as you were all wonderful. A special thanks to Kate for stepping back in front of the camera again. A welcome return that will hopefully be continued from time to time. And also a big thank you to the guys for all your efforts as well. Rest assured that at least one RE membership will be sticking around to see both the Sweden and Spain sets and videos.

I, personally, always enjoy seeing this type of behind the scenes views (both stills and video) as I feel it brings the site and forum members a bit closer together as a community. Hope we’ll continue to see more of this in the future.

Hywel, one small request, well okay not so small. Fully understand the reasoning behind making the Sweden trip a photo set only trip because of the availability of the “golden” light. But somewhere down the road might it be possible for us to see a video with a couple of the RE ladies in their cheongsams chained together in some maner along the lines of the fianl set from Sweden? Will certainly understand if not feasible or would not have a wide enough appeal on the site, but thought I would throw out the idea for what it’s worth as it would be a 6 rating at least with me.

Anyway, take some time to decompress from the two trips everyone (you’ve earned it). Best to everyone and look forward to the travel sets and videos and will see everyone on the forum and future chats.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

yeah i also liked the reading about what and how it happened in Sweden.
Especially the flower thing where you said, i dont know whats going on i am just the boss ๐Ÿ™‚

The only thing i didnt understand was the long processing from photo to web(photo)?
I guess you use digital camera’s, so why not save all the picures and then do a batch conversion to make them the right size?

Thanks Jeff, I had a blast and got the bug again. It was great to put my Temptress hat on once again – I even got to be mean to Pling which was tremendous fun – so as long as everyone else is happy, and if the opportunity presents itself, then I would be glad to do it again sometime.

so why not save all the picures and then do a batch conversion to make them the right size?

If only it was that easy, wow! I am sure Hywel will enlighten you on this one further but, for a site like RE that prides itself on quality, it is so much more work than simply making the image the right size…

We do a lot more than just resize.

    1) Tweak the colour balance and tone curve of the shots so they are flattering, punchy and have the “Restrained Elegance look” of very smooth tones and very saturated primary colours. This is generally automatable with a single tone curve per photoset, but not always- changing light conditions can make it very tricky to give a consistent look and feel to the set.

    2) Choose whether and where to crop the image. I sometimes shoot pictures “knowing” that I’ll crop it to a really wide-screen format, and sometimes you want to crop out extraneous stuff to focus attention on the model, or crop off the edge of something you didn’t spot was in frame (powerlines, reflectors, the bag full of rope, etc).

    3) Airbrushing. Although we try to keep this to the minimum by shooting the most gorgeous girls in the nicest lighting, even models sometimes get a zit on their faces or a scratch on their knees or a mosquito bite on their bum. Because we’re aiming for a very elegant and perfect look, where practical we will photoshop out that sort of blemish.

    4) Only then do we sharpen and resize, and add the URL.

A typical photoset will take about an hour to shoot, and the same time or slightly longer to process.

Videos are even worse. I can shoot about six videos in a day, but editing those videos will EACH take half a day (for simple stuff) or a long day (for something like Medieval Epic) to edit.

So actually the bulk of the work in running RE is prepping photos and editing videos- that takes up considerably more time than shooting them in the first place.

    Cheers, Hywel.

Ah.. brings it all back.. ๐Ÿ™‚ Although I’m not sure about Ariels insinuations regarding the sleeping arrangements of myself and Steve?? hmmm, pah! ๐Ÿ˜ก

So what did we (I) learn?

    In no order..
    – lipgloss sticks to hair better than lips..
    – never open a window in a swedish “summerhouse”, not unless you’ve Steve’s cat-like reflexes and the tools to put it back..
    – no point metering an exposure outdoors under broken cloud as it’s guaranteed to change before pressing the shutter..
    – Sophia can’t sing, doesn’t care and does bad things to ipods..
    – put yer model in the shade, meter the exposure and she’ll find some way of putting her hand or foot in the bright sunlight..
    – put yer model in the sunlight, meter the exposure and she’ll find some way of putting her hand or foot in the dark shade..
    – no the meters not lying, it really is that dark in here..
    – the only girl in the world kinkier than Ariel is Pling (and never play poker with her 8) )
    – nighttime rocks..
    – 1004mi to destination is not what you want your satnav to say..
    – Steve’s energy is so boundless its worrying at times..
    – Mcdonalds are shit the world over but sometimes, sometimes you’d kill for one..
    – you’re never quite at the top of the foodchain in Sweden, mosquitos suck..
    – never walk through a door without expecting to see a half naked glamour model tied to something. Or washing up.. Or..

What have I forgotten? I’m sure there’s more.

    Cheers

p.s. apologies to Hywel & Ariel if our text saying “err, its a bit of a dump” caused distress. We deliberated for ages and decided it was better to arrive fearing the worst and be relieved than arrive to find a dilapidated shack and be horrified, as we were. Still relieved how well everyone made the best of it, maybe it wouldn’t have been so much fun in a luxury villa.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Merlin..

Reading what you learnt madxe me chuckle. I felt like most of the points were about me ๐Ÿ˜†

I went to see Mamma Mia last night and sang the WHOLE way through, the music kept dying and Id still be belting away ‘Dancing Queen’ and didnt care (In my fairness, they changed how some of the songs were sung ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

Loved the behind the scenes. I look like an absolute fool doing my acrobatics on the rock(s) but never mind!

I went to see Mamma Mia too last night and sang all the way through too. Spooky! Those added guitar riffs at the end of the big dancing queen number really caught me out… Fab film though!

It was hilarious when you dropped your ipod down the loo, Soph. Good times. And I don’t think I will ever hear ‘A Whole New World’ without thinking of Sweden…

Finally I get the time to post an answer, I know….itยดs a reall slow reply.. looked over the behind the scenes again and laught, remembering all the fun.

    Lots of things … ๐Ÿ˜‰

Playing poker was fun (hm… me being kinker then Ariel,? ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ™‚ )
The house was weird, it felt like everywhere we went around in it we found another room, door…. or stairs leading down to the cellar. It had itยดs charm and it was kind of fun when the windows started falling out ๐Ÿ™‚

A cage outside in a garden… (now I want one even more.. and a garden to put it in)

Canยดt forget Sophiaยดs singing and everybody had the chance to sing along ๐Ÿ™‚ it was so much fun

The light during nighttime, now itยดs dark and rainy… ๐Ÿ™

About the pic of the magazine.. just ๐Ÿ˜€ dam.
