British Fetish Film Festival Change of Direction (for now)

News on the British Fetish Film Festival: we’re changing direction, for now.

Our dry run event for producers was a lot of fun, it went very well, and everyone was inspired and wanted to do more events.

Our meeting with Reading council also went well. The chap we spoke to was very calm and nice. We were meant to submit a proposal and sample of films that they could run by their legal department and get an opinion. We gathered some contributions and wrote a draft proposal.

In the meantime, Cameron and buddies launched a war on pron and a crusade to censor internet and damn any collateral damage to little things like freedom of speech, freedom of expression for adults or the availability of sexual health and LGBT information sites.

Frankly, this has left producers feeling under siege.

The broad feeling amongst the producers is that the current hysteria makes it difficult to get a fair hearing. It also invites all the wrong sort of scumbag journalistic attention for the event itself.

Whilst there is a lot to be said for making this the ideal time to fight back with a fetish film festival, we feel people like us with ZERO experience of running public events would be running an unacceptably high risk. There are too many pitfalls.

So we’ve decided to shelve the idea of a public film screening style festival until a) the climate improves and b) we know what we are doing a bit more or c) someone who has much more experience in running similar events offers to help out!

We also realised that the producers’ get-together was the event we really wanted to organise in the first place.

So we are going to organise private afternoon tea parties with fetish film making workshops, screenings and discussion sessions… by people who make fetish films, for people who make fetish films. Attendance will be by invitation only, but of course we’re always happy to meet other film-makers so please do drop us a line if you’d like to find out more.
