Would it be possible to put a link from the forum back to the RE members area? Currently the link from the RE members area to the forum is one-way; to go back, you have to use your browser’s “back” button.
Or if this isn’t possible for technical reasons, how about a work-around where the forum link in the RE member’s area opens the forum in a new browser window?
Hmm, I hadn’t really thought this was a problem as I usually open up the forum and the main site as separate tabs or windows anyway so I can refer to both at the same time. I can see how opening the forum automatically in a new window would help in some cases but not everyone likes extra windows opening willy nilly and would like a choice.
Is there really that much difference between pressing back on your browser and clicking a link on the actual page? Or right clicking and opening as a new window? Or am I totally missing something?

Doesn’t look like it is something I can trivially add in the control panel. I might be able to do it by hacking the style file.
Like Kate, I don’t really see that changing the default from forum in the same window to forum in a new window is particularly better, although I could certainly change it to that if the majority of people want it.
A link back to the members’ area is a good and obvious solution, so I will see if I can figure out how to do that.

Would other people prefer the forum link from the members’ pages to pop up a new window, or do you prefer it as it is now?
(I have a mild preference for how it is now)

Normally I’d prefer it how it is now, too. But then I’d prefer it to be easy to add a “back to the members area” button. 🙁 “Open by default in a new window” is a second-best, fall-back option.
