Hi All,
Based on conversations with other webmasters, and my own experiences with trying to get decent quality from its aging codec, I am strongly minded to switch over to just the 720p and iPod sized MP4 files for videos on the site shortly.
WMV is inferior in many ways to the newer MP4 format- it breaks up really badly if it goes (just have a look how ragged the “RestrainedElegance.com” shining light intro is on WMV compared with MP4 if you don’t believe me) and for the amount of space it takes up, MP4 produces a FAR superior image.
I know a fair few people are still downloading as WMV, but I’m thinking these days that will be more out of habit than out of lack of ability to play MP4, as pretty much every video player on every operating system can play it these days. Certainly no-one has emailed me to complain that the Elegance Studios videos were only available as MP4.
So… unless anyone has a strong objection, I’m planning to switch to just the two MP4 versions shortly.

I hope everyone is doing well. Just my two cents on the pending drop of the WMV video format. I typically tend to download the WMV format on most videos rather than the MP4. I started doing that because I used to have a Windows XP based system and the windows media player at that time could not handle the MP4 format. You had to go get the Quicktime viewer from Apple for that. I changed over to a Windows 7 system in July (because the mother board on the old system let go) and the current version of the windows media player can now handle the MP4 format and that’s what I’ve downloaded all three Elegance Studios bondage videos in. I’ll start downloading the regular RE videos in the new format. Only reason I have not is just habit.
The only potential problem I have seen with the newer video formats is that sometimes a newer HD video will look a bit more choppy on my monitor than the same video in an older format will look. It’s not a consistent problem and I suspect it has to do with the fact that I am using the flat screen from my old system which is not a HD or higher resolution monitor. Is it not a big deal? No not really and I have no idea what percentage of the RE viewers might be in the same situation. Technology keeps improving. Do what you need to do Hywel. Eventually I’ll go get a newer monitor for the PC.
