    Thought you would 😀

If I hadn’t already followed your maxim and gone DsIII when the first came out, I would have been opening the boxes yesteday too!

Look forward to some field experience updates as you get used to it, got to make my mind up by 31st August (Year End). Particularly like your views on shooting rates, I’m very partial to bursts of two/three shots.

Now I’m going to get into a lot of trouble here, but yes cake makers do exist, saw one on a factory tour at United Biscuits (McVites) as a management student in the early seventies, produced about thrity cream sponges a minute …. now exactly how much do you like cake Ariel?

Had a quick search of the web for a picture and found this and this is really going to get me into trouble with Hywel….

Think that is the point, to maintain it’s position the market leader in quality the site has to keep testing the water and experimenting, not only for now but for the back catalogue in two or three years time, I’m minded of the early videos not existing as AVI and thus being able to be recoded. Think Hywel as made the case for MF on the image qualities front but I think I’d wait for the 39+Mp backs to come down in price and go for a 5DII and some more props in the meantime.

    Hywel,

Been thinking along the same lines, although the HST (Shift & Tilt adaptor) and image qualities were a bigger factor than pure Mega Pixels (I have a DsIII), so your comments were most welcome and much more useful than the other reviews I’ve read. In fact I’m now in a bit of a quandary, been offered a stunning deal on a Phase One, but it doesn’t have a waist level finder, (but lots of good s/h Mamiya lenses ot there), then there’s a question mark over Leaf’s camera body supplier (F&H), so I’d rather decided to only get an HD3DII in to test…

In the meantime it did occur that I’d never used my Leica M8 in the studio and that it might be interesting to compare the image qualities of a non-Japanese camera, happily a well known and very tall model was available at my favourite studio so I gave it a try… First off manual focus was a trial, had to be very very careful using the ranegfinder at studio distances especially with anything longer than a 50mm lens, on the other hand being able to get histograms of zoomed-in parts of the image was wonderful. Are the images different? Oh yes! and there are a whole lot less on them too, you have to work slower, but the hit rate is higher. The tonal quality is decidely different, but are they better mmm … kicks self for not taking a Canon as well! I’ll send a coupel to the model and I’m sure if you don’t un-install the cake maker she’ll let you see…

Is that a UKism for “bread machine”?

I think it’s wishful thinking on Ms A’s part but don’t see why you couldn’t make say a sponge cake making machine. As for a big red clowns nose, I’m just editing some pics of her eating a punnet of strawberries, there’s one that would Photoshop nicely, no bondage gear though.

    Hi Hywel,

Are the Bondage Safety Notes available to non-members …

I was shooting a model last week, Air Hostess Glamour for a Lad’s mag, anyway I remarked this would make a great bondage scenario (genuine uniforms available for loan 😀 ). To my surprise the model said Oh I tried that last week! so we had a bit more of a chat about it and to cut a long story short I was a little concerned that although she was working with an OK ‘tog she herself did really know enough for her own safety…

I’ve mentioned to Ariel in the past that I think it would be a good idea for the responsible sites to offer some form of guidence to models, FAQ or half day tutorial or something… wonder what you and the others think .. this model didn’t tell the ‘tog she was going numb and was starting to get pins and needles … because she didn’t know she should! Ok the ‘tog shoudl have briefed her …

    Firstly,

“Hm, my photography is a bit second rate, should I take inspiration from person X?”

Obviously missed something here, what planet are you on Hywel?

And any top ten list of models which doesn’t include Ariel just makes me think “they don’t know what they are talking about”.

And they probbaly think Robert Mugabe is the democratically elected President on Zimbabwe.

    And now rather more seriously,

It was all about getting your constituency out to vote, getting them to vote early and often and on as many PCs as you could. It was not in any way a reliable way to judge public opinion.

I just hope no-one takes it too seriously.

And that’s the problem, many people WILL take it seriously, OK not really a serious a issue in this case, except maybe for the spurious business it generates for some and deserved business for others it doesn’t.

But the more polls we have like this, albeit in fun, without protest the more people will come to beleive them and then they will start being used to gauge serious issues …… so in truth this poll (but not the results) and the others like it need to be taken VERY seriously.

    Hywel/Ariel,

Think they are truly top class, with or without the bondage element, the red, the green, the legs …….I’ve added my vote to improve the stats.

BTW, isn’t a Happy Birthday due about now Ariel?
If so have a good one :cheers The trick is to have one candle on the cake, for environmental reasons, I assume it’s a a safe bet you have a cake.

Well, if Ariel has to undertake some tests, this should count as one of them, with a resounding PASSED.

Unless of course she was popping her tiara (or should I say Sammie’s tiara) on everytime the camera’s back was turned. 🙂

    Ariel, Great idea, well executed,
doubt if I’ll ever be able to pick up a copy of Hell-OK again without a smile crossing my face.

How about extending the franchsie if a suitable location opportunity arises, in the style of Country Life or perhaps New Scientist.

I have a montage of close ups of THOSE SOCKS as the screen saver on my PC at work…. well we all know what Hywel then used them for…. makes me smile everytime it pops ups and nobody knows….. 🙂

You were a great sport Ariel, heres to a super 2008 for you :cheers …. and everbody else :cheers :cheers

Whilst I’m sure some thought provoking images would result, I think we should give some though to what “the bump” or horror “the bumps” friends might think 15 years later …..

I’m fortunate in having some beautiful pictures of my mother with bump, somewhat less candid than a “Demi”, it was a few years ago :), but truly beautiful, all the more so now she is no longer with us.

I think you all know where I’m going ….

Have no idea about the techy side of photography – just love Bondage.

That being the case I ‘d say you did pretty d**n well.

Ariel and I enjoyed the shoot and I guess that’s the important thing.

    Precisely 🙂

    Exactly.

But that doesn’t make an awful lot of them fair or reasonable or for that matter make a fair and reasonable one half-way workable.

Hope I made it clear, before the entire photo fraternity start sticking pins in a wax efigy of me, whilst I understand Rosaleen’s position, in the circumstances I can have little sympathy (ie none) with it.

In fact over here the court would imply the principle terms even if a release hadn’t been signed, just as the copyright automatically belongs to the photographer. which of course isn’t neccessarily fair and reasonable 🙂

Read Ariel’s and Hywel’s comments with some interest, I’d like to give another perspective to the general debate. Not sure this is the right thread so if you want to move it Hywel feel free, and Ariel please don’t get bored I’d like to know ahat you think.

Firstly in the case we’re talking about let’s make it clear my view is, if Rosaleen Young wishes to ask that’s her prerogative, although as feline says a little bit like closing the stable door after the horse has trampled all over the internet. If photographers wish to respect her desire it’s up to them. Although Ariel it must be said Kate Moss did come up with a rather radical albeit temporary solution to the problem, although in her case we must remember there is a large element of product endorsement involved as well as modeling.

On to my main point, I’ve commissioned many photographs over the years, but in recent years I’ve given up due to the unrealistic demand of photographers particularly over copyright, no problem I take them myself, especially as I find myself a very reasonable person to negotiate with. I’ll describe the problem; hopefully you’ll see how complex the jigsaw that Hywel & Ariel have described can get.

Suppose I want a product shot of a tractor for a brochure, so I provide the tractor, the location, the driver etc. and commission the photographer; to my it is not unreasonable to require the copyright in the image. Well it may surprise many of you to know that it is not uncommon for a photographer to refuse, in some cases they will only license the photograph to the customer for a limited time. What I find amusing is that these are the self same photographers who’ll happily shove a model release under a models nose and give an extra hours fee for signing away everything…. Mmmm.

Why does the photographer want to keep the copyright, typically the answer is so that at some time in the future they can a) use it in their portfolio, b) exhibit it, c) enter it in a competition, no problems so far, quite happy to allow that, d) put it in library, sorry, excuse me you want to be able to sell an image of my product, that I paid for, to anybody who comes along …… and what do I get out of it (thinks Hollywood writers strike!) To use Ariel’s analogy it’s a bit like selling you a house then wanting to rent out the spare room. There is however a serious side to this problem suppose some years later the laws on tractor use have changed and my driver is now doing something illegal (nor wearing a seatbelt) or maybe what is acceptable has changed, the driver is a topless model.

I reminded of the case of Bill Cash (the Tory MP) whose PA when a student did some modeling, up to implied nude (as it’s called), very jolly, the tabloids loved it, especially as one of the pictures, in a bikini, appeared on the cover (but not inside) a top-shelf magazine, had she foreseen that? I note that some Model Releases now give the model a box for restrictions as to use and that Alamy say “(except for pornographic, defamatory, libelous or otherwise unlawful)â€

    TFM,

The idea for the shot in the corner was good and but whole thing about digital is that you can experiment, 1) didn’t come off, 2) Hywel would put on his wall

Regarding the slight cropping issue, do you wear glasses? I have to admit to having this problem, I’m trying to train myself to pull back/zoom out.

However I rather like where you’re going with 3-6, a plain or less natural background might have been an idea. As for the last three, I rather like the last one, I’d have cropped it harder and lost Ariel’s fingertips with Photoshop.

    Q2 is easy, Erin O’Connor

Q1 begs the question then or now?, so as Hywel’s response is only possible “then”, the precedent is set and the answer can only be Helen of Troy. Hywel can use money from the Nobel prize to persuade my other choice

Perhaps a bit harsh Tancrede, I’d like to know what Tighter was trying to achieve, that’s quite a nice infinity cove behind Ariel (not a roll of cheap background paper) so there’s probably a story behind the lighting.

I’m equally bemused by nice cove and the rough concrete floor, although I don’t see this as a complete excuse for a sheepskin lined cage!

That said, overall a bit hardcore for my taste, I can live with the nipple clamps, but the clothes pegs :stiffdrink The cage shots on the other hand are quite inventive, yes Feline no 4 is the one, with a simpler gag and a bit more Photshop it would have been an easy 9.9.

As for the last (and first), you’ve seen my shots of Miss A, so you know my feelings about her legs, and the rosy b** … heaven.

re point 6, Hywel promised us a snow shoot last year!!! think it would be brill.

Saw you went to Delhi, did you visit the Red Fort?, that’s the place I always remember from my travelling days as passing on a VIP vist to (memo to Frank: Idiot). Assume you went to Agra, now that would have made a birthday suit tiara shot, doubtless followed by a dungeon sequence.

Thought I’d put in a word for all those who like short hair, it looks great Katie.

The colours in the first shot are great, almost a pity the arm tie couldn’t have been lighter, but that would miss the point of RE. Rather like shot six too, it as a simple direct quality … all in all more evidence for those following the “Level Of Nudity – My Imagination ?” thread I’m afraid, but I guess the final shot redresses the balance.
