    Hi Sheep,

Wow, that is pretty spectacular! Thanks for sharing your photo’s too!

I hate to think how long that must have taken to construct, but you should be really proud of your efforts. Great piece of design and clearly a lot of hard work has gone into it. Very cool. 😀

Good luck with the next dress too, hope it all goes to plan.

    Cheers,

I like your idea of using the pole as part of a hogtie, Lurker. I think that could work really well.

One of the reasons for getting this pole, was the availability of fittings that can be used with it. There is an extensive range of corners, t-joints, cross joints, flange fixings etc, that can be combined with different pole lengths to create any structure that will be interesting to use for tying the models too.

I had a thought about adding in a simple cross piece to the pole, about half way up forming a horizontal cross bar. The model would lay down on the floor, on her back, with her legs spread apart and ankles raised up and attached to the ends of the horizontal cross piece. This would make quite a good foot torture/tickling position. Her hands would be locked together, but the position alone would be quite immobilising by itself. It may be worth considering as a video with Ariel perhaps?

    Happy Birthday RE! 🙂

Many congratulations to Hywel on his 10 year achievement! Just wanted to pass on a huge thanks to all involved with the site, both behind the camera, the models in front of the camera and to all the members for keeping the site going and making this such a great place to share our fascination of girls in bondage.

I know there’s a lot more to look forward to in the coming months/years, especially with the planned shoots and the launch of elegancestudios.com.

Oh, and I love the new RE book too! It’s awesome! 🙂

    Well done everybody! 🙂

    Hello,

That’s an interesting observation to make about the very limited number of shots taken from behind. I agree there aren’t that many!

There is absolutely no policy whatsoever about not taking shots of the models back, and it’s definitely not a conscious decision made during any shoot.

In addition to Kate’s comments, which I totally agree with (especially the bit about creating beautiful pictures), the only conclusion I can come up with from my perspective is I rarely give direction during the shoot. We work with full time professional models that shoot on a daily basis. They too want the images to be the very best they can be and they all know what poses work well for them. So I tend to let the models work through their individual posing repertoire and only inject a little direction if I feel something may not be working quite right and frame each shot on the merits of the pose to hopefully produce an appealing image.

Now I’m certainly not using that as an excuse, nor blaming the models in anyway whatsoever for not getting shots from behind as the shoot is conducted under the direction of the photographer. So I think consciously adding a little direction to shoot from the back would be a very good thing to aid the variety of shots in the set.

    Cheers,

    Hi Ariel,

It’s great to see you back on the forum and I hope you’re making a speedy recovery.

Congratulations on going part time with R.E. this week! I think it’s a great move and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it very much. 🙂 It would be nice to hear about what you get up to and the work you’ll be doing for the site, even if it’s not computer programming!

    I wish you well,

That’s so sweet, Ariel. Thank you for your very kind words. I feel incredibly humbled.

Everyone has a significant part to play on these location shoots to make them successful and I’m just very grateful to have been given the opportunity to take part.

This was definitely the most challenging trip I’ve been on for R.E. We had all tried to prepare ourselves for it as much as possible before hand, but the weather was always the big unknown factor.

Ariel and Katy’s dedication to working outdoor art nude in bondage under tricky weather conditions is nothing short of inspirational. I have the utmost respect for their work and what they achieved. They made the trip a sheer delight to be part of and it was such a lot of fun so I thank you both for that.

Hywel’s vision of shooting outdoor bondage in the Arctic Circle where the sun never sets in the summer was remarkable. I can’t think of any other bondage site/producer who would even contemplate such an adventure to create real artistic and unique material. Thank you, Hywel, for the shoot of a lifetime! What a trip to remember!

It’s kind of hard to sum up, but I’ve never had so many cups of tea, cakes and chocolate, laughter and fun, bondage and photography, changeable weather every 20mins, Ariel & Katy’s dancing and literature discussions and absolutely no darkness what so ever, all in 1 week! 🙂

I hope we have produced some sets that everyone can enjoy.

    Cheers,

I think Merlin’s suggestion would be a lot of fun! It’s a real shame the logistics / technicalities and cost is prohibitive this time round.

But producing a book is a great way to mark your 10 year milestone, Hywel. I seem to remember you mentioning in the past you would like to compile a book at some point. I hope you get the opportunity and time to fulfil this! That’s also a very kind gesture offering a copy to the RE crew.

I agree, June does look like it’ll be a cracking month!

Wow, it was nearly a year ago when we shot Sabrina, Paige and Ariel on that long dining room table. It’s not often you have a chance to tie up 3 gorgeous girls in the same set like that. Ah, happy days!

I think it’s great you now have a blog, Hywel. Plus I’m even more pleased you’re shooting for fun too!

Kate, you have made me very happy! I’ve only tried landscapes a few times, and on each occasion I had the tripod with me. Having read various magazines on the subject, it seemed using a tripod was pretty much the law! I had no success at all for the same reasons both you and Hywel have described…. I really like your raindrops photo!

Nice shot, Sheep! Painting with light is tricky; you did well to get it. Yep, definitely need a tripod for that.

I’ve posted 2 pics below, and both of them should have required a tripod. I’m delighted to say I never used one! The first shot I took on a beach in Cornwall. It was a horrific stormy day, raining and very windy. This was shot hand held whilst trying to hold a silly plastic sheet over the camera to protect it. I probably used up the whole memory card with all my attempts. Hooray for digital cameras! But this has been heavily over sharpened in photoshop.

The second is Hong Kong. Shooting at night in low light with long shutter speeds was horrid, but I sort of managed without a tripod, even though it’s not properly sharp and a bit grainy due to the high ISO.

So I’m glad to share the opinion tripods have there place, but they are a lot of hassle and you can do without them! 🙂

    Hi Sheep,

Glad you had a fab time at the tutorial! These sample pics look terrific! 🙂

It sure is very surreal. It took me about a week to get over the tutorial I attended and to get my head around the fact that I was actually there with Hywel and Ariel shooting bondage. There’s nothing quite like it!

Yep, from now on the credit card will take a hammering and there will be a never ending wish list of shiny new kit to buy. I’m sure we can all vouch for the fact it really is never ending!

Your underground venue sounds interesting! Mirrored columns? Cool….Sounds like a lot of potential. 🙂

in reply to: A really stupid question for Hywel and any other photogs #15889

    renlleoz

    Hi cl.reply,

Hey, it’s not a stupid question at all. Firstly, you’re quite right that it is a professional situation and it will remain that way for the whole shoot. You maybe shooting adult content, but being polite and above all, respectful to the models is paramount at all times, which if course goes without saying.

Being professionally friendly is the very best approach as that helps the people you’re working with to be relaxed and comfortable around you too. I definitely understand your concerns about being aroused, but I really wouldn’t dwell on it too much. You’ll probably find you’ll have nothing to worry about.

It partly depends on what you will be doing at the shoot. When were shooting the sets for R.E., there is so much going on which the photographer is responsible for, we find that last thing on our minds is the adult-nature of the situation we in. That may seem a little unbelievable at first, even if your shooting art-nude, but here’s a basic checklist of what we do for a single set:-

    Choose storyline/theme for the set
    Decide on set location
Make sure set is sufficiently warm for the model!
Decide on which bondage position to use.
Decide which types of restraints to use
    Choose models clothing
    Choose hair style and make-up
    Work out the lighting pattern
Test and meter every light for correct exposure.
Set the camera settings to match the lighting pattern
Take test shots to double check exposure and adjust if necessary.
Begin the bondage tie and progress throughout the set if required.
Start shooting (which is physically tiring too. You’re holding a heavy camera and moving around to shoot from every conceivable angle).

Then during the shoot, you’re constantly responsible for the models safety, making sure you’re getting the shots you want and continuing to adjust the lights to point at the model if she is moving around the set. Times all this by 8 as we normally shoot 8 sets in a day and you begin to see the work load involved.

When were producing these sets, were doing it for the site and Hywels’s business. A single day shoot is expensive, so there is an element of pressure to produce the material required to the standards you want. So when you take all of that into account, a photographer is normally pretty warn out by the end of the day and the reality is your not relaxed enough to get turned on by the situation you find yourself in.

I hope I haven’t made it sound like a nightmare, because it really isn’t. Shooting these images is a lot of fun and very rewarding and there’s nothing else I would rather be doing.

I hope that helps, but if you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Enjoy the shoot and I hope you have a great time there.

Does anyone have a preference as to whether they prefer normal ball gags or a full head harness?

I know the really big ball gags are effective, but I think they may not look as pretty on the models sometimes.

    Hi Joaco,

I definitely like to see the ladies wearing ball gags, I’m a fan of that. I remember Sophia saying she had to wear a large ball gag for a very long time during a video shoot once (not for RE, it was for somebody else).

Ha! Yeah right Ms Hunter…. Not talkative!!!!….. Personally I’d say that deserves 20 lashes! 🙂 I do recall a lot of chatting coming from your good self at the barn shoot.

    Hi Steelman,

Handcuff hogties are a real favourite of mine! It is really nice to see normal handcuffs on ankles as obviously this is more strict. I also like handcuffs on elbows, hands and ankles plus thumbcuffs on thumbs and toes too, all at the same time. But that’s quite harsh….I wonder if Ariel could be persuaded to try it at some point…?

We have actually just shot a video of a handcuff hogtie. To make it a little different, we used the police style, rigid Hiatt cuffs on ankles and hands with a normal pair of handcuffs to attach them together to form the hogtie. It looked really good during the filming, so keep an eye out for that in the future when it becomes available on the site.

LOL – I like your style Kate and I don’t think that’s mean at all! It sounds really good so hope you get to try it.

    Hi all,

It was a pretty full on, busy 2 days filming this lot, but such a lot of fun! What a mixture of shooting indoors, outdoors, in the evening, out in public and with the gorgeous Sammie and Ariel! It was awesome! 🙂

Quite a learning curve using the 5D Mk2, but the results look amazing, especially the evening footage. I love the shallow depth of field and the sheer glossy feel you can get with this.

I must admit, when I purchased this camera, I knew it had the video function, but it seemed like a bit of a gimmick. I thought it was something I would never use. How wrong was I! I wish it did have more functionality for video, but with some careful thought and use, it does produce great results.

Thanks for sharing the magic lantern web page cl.reply. It does look pretty cool and those extra features will help a lot. Lets hope their version for the 7D is released soon. I really wish Canon, with all the video know how, would release a decent firmware upgrade to incorporate these features.

Interest thought Jeff, shooting under moonlight! That would be different! I may try that to see how it looks if we get a clear night 🙂

Outdoor bondage is cool (but a little un-nervy when people pass by walking their dogs!). It takes a real professional like Sammie, to have the confidence and ability to shoot outdoor bondage in public. She is a superstar and gave a brilliant performance bringing this story to life.

Thank you Sam, Ariel and Hywel for all your hard work!

I’ve watched this trailer loads of times now, but really can’t wait to see the final versions up on the site! I hope there is something for everyone to enjoy in this film.

    Cheers

I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! Hywel is on holiday at the moment, but when he returns, I’m sure he’ll be delighted to read through your comments.

It was fantastic to have the opportunity to work with Sabrina again and we certainly tried to make the most of that and shoot as much content as possible. I agree, Hywel did a great job putting the video together and editing it. I really like all the close-up shots too and seeing the bondage being locked in place. You’re right about the traffic noise from the main road at the front of the Castle. It was very loud and unfortunately the camera records it only to well!

    Hi all,

Sorry for not replying earlier, but I’ve been away and only just got back….

I’m glad you liked the video! Thank you for all your comments. When this concept was first discussed with Hywel, I really wasn’t sure if it would be well received. We wanted to try something different and fun, so the Castle shoot was one of those extremely rare opportunities to have 5 models so we decided to give it a go.

The first task was to select a suitable music track and after trolling through literary hundreds of songs, we decided upon “Let me be your fantasy” as that seemed most appropriate with an upbeat tempo.

The second task was to map out every bit of footage to shoot for each bar of the song, including model, bondage, clothing and location. There are 104 bars in this track so that actually took more time to work out then shooting the content!

The third task was to ask the ladies nicely if they were willing to sing along to the track, which fortunately turned out to be a resounded yes! I remember Ariel being particularly enthusiastic about the prospect. 🙂

The shooting had to be done in several stages in-between the normal still shoots that continued with Hywel and Kate. It made for a busy few days, but well worth it 🙂

I’ve never edited anything like this before, as it’s a very differently style to that of the normal videos seen here. Music videos are inherently fast paced, due to very tight editing with a constant change of footage, so we decided to take this approach, as it seemed to fit well with the pace of the track. The video could have been edited in any number of ways, including the suggestion Manolo made about showing just one model singing the whole line “Let me be your fantasy”. It was actually shot like that, as we had the song track playing in the background while filming, so the models knew the timing of what to sing. I made the decision to edit the video by cutting to the different models at a fast pace to keep it in line with the music video style as that just seemed to fit best in the end.

Big thanks to all involved! It was a lot of fun to shoot. 🙂 Your absolutely right, Jeff. The ladies definitely put on a great show of seduction and playfulness! 🙂

    Cheers,

    Hi Ariel,

Very glad to hear your ok after the operation. Hope it’s not too painful and your recovering well.

Interesting question! I can’t say I have a particular style of Dom that I prefer to see on screen, as long as you come across as firm, authorative and in control at all times. Shouting doesn’t appeal, as that actually feels out of control, like losing your temper.

I know this is a personal point of view, and everyone’s opinion will differ, but I never consciously take any interest in the Dom at all, as long as they remain in charge. For me, it’s all about the sub, her reactions, expressions and vulnerability.

I think because you’re such a good actress and have so many characters to play with great confidence on camera, I have no concerns about you switching roles. I know it doesn’t feel right to you, being incredibly naturally submissive, but I actually enjoy seeing all your characters!

I think may be the ‘Tempoary Dom’ will work best. If that’s what feel’s most comfortable, then that’ll probably come across better on screen.

    Hi,

Yes, you’re absolutely right. It is a padlock that’s been cut and fitted in to be part of the cuff. Once locked, they are extremely secure, but you do need the right size for the model, as they are non-adjustable. I know Hywel has them custom made in a couple of sizes to fit models wrists, ankles and necks for the collar.

    Hi PhiThinker,

I’m with you on the strappado position, as that’s a firm favourite of mine too. I like the fact it’s very restrictive, even with just the minimal amount of rope!

The majority of the images seen on R.E. were taken with a Canon 5D. Only recently has this changed with Hywel purchasing a very nice Hasselblad (which I’m extremely envious of!). Please don’t think you need to spend lots of money on a camera to achieve most of these results, as that’s not the case at all. The greatest step forward is simply taking your camera of automatic mode and switching it to manual allowing full control over what you’re shooting. Having a DSLR certainly helps, but expensive cameras do not automatically mean your images will look 10 times better. Far from it. As Hywel has already described above, the most important part in this type of photography, especially the more contrasting shots, is your light source and understanding how to use it.

The shot of Sophia in the pool swinging her head back has an element of luck involved. I had to point the camera slightly off centre to the right behind Sophia’s head because when she flicked backwards, her head would have moved out of shot as it happens so quickly. So you’re anticipating where her head will be during the motion. This means you can keep the camera still and not have to try and follow her head movement. Then when she flicks backwards, all you can do is watch her hair and click when you think it’s in the right position to take the shot. Fortunately, in this case, it worked! 🙂

    Cheers,

Spain was awesome!!! So lucky to have spent such a fab week with great friends in a very hot location with a pool and as much ice-cream as you can eat!!

Thank you Hywel for a wonderful time and to all the models for their enthusiasm and making it such great fun.

Sophia’s hair flicking shot took a couple of attempts to get right, but she did it so well, we wanted to do it justice so very pleased with that shot.

The two tone rig on Sophia was actually my wife’s idea! I was practising rigging it on her before we flew out, so had to give it a try and Sophia volunteered to model it so beautifully. After which, we were in the mood to try different positions, so we tied Fi in that flying hogtie! 🙂

Ariel tied to the tree was Hywel’s lovely creation and I think she looks gorgeous!

I like the shots of all 3 ladies together in yellow rope by the pool side 🙂

Ah, thank you for your kind words Jeff. It’s always lovely to hear appreciation and I hope all these sets plus all the unseen footage will be to everyone’s liking as much as possible.

It was great to have the chance to experiment more on this trip with the lighting to create different effects and different styles of photography. Especially with the evening / night shooting which was all a very steep learning curve! I’ve never had to balance the suns natural brightness with that of outdoor flash heads before! It certainly kept us on our toes, especially when the sun dipped down and the light depleted. It’s a far cry from working in the studio! All credit to Hywel for his expertise and ability to produce these amazing effects. It was a lot of fun to shoot at the time, but it wasn’t until we all huddled around the computer every night to review the day’s work that we could really see whether or not everything had gone to plan. Fortunately, for the most part, it did and I’m sure the whole team are very proud of the results.

Plus of course it’s rare to have the opportunity to tie up several girls in one set, so it was lovely to make the most of that too!

    Steve 🙂
